This Unified team concept took on national awareness at the 2014 Special Olympics National Games in New Jersey and in the 2015 Special Olympics World Games in Los Angeles, California. Stephen Coston written and did television editorial and wrote numerous letters to the State and Federal Government on improving higher education programs for Special Needs Students. Stephen Coston is a Global Messenger graduate of the Special Olympics Athlete Leadership program and served in the Special Olympics Athletes Congress. They both have sacrificed a lot and spent their hard earned money to do this worthy cause in what they believe in. They did this without any sponsors or any grants.
The 2014 Special Olympics USA Games will welcome nearly 3,500 athletes to New Jersey to compete in 16 Olympic-style team and individual sports with the support of 1,000 coaches, 10,000 volunteers and in front of an expected 70,000 spectators. Staged throughout Mercer County, N.J., the 2014 Games celebrate the Special Olympics’ promotion of acceptance and inclusion through sports, while showcasing the abilities of athletes with intellectual disabilities. The Golf Competition, for which KPMG has been a presenting sponsor since 2009, will be hosted at the Mercer Oaks Golf Club in West Windsor, N.J.

From 16 different sports competitions in some of the top sports venues in the state including PrincetonUniversity to the creation of a Jersey Shore-themed Olympic Town complete with boardwalk for the athletes, the 2014 Special Olympics USA Games will showcase the achievements and determination of Special Olympics athletes nationwide. The Special Olympics athletes will participate in spectacular Special Events from the moment they arrive including New Jersey Welcome Day, Opening Ceremony at Prudential Center, boat cruise to see the Statue of Liberty, Sports Showcases and the Closing Ceremony at Sun National Bank Center.
